Review:

Nationalism and, above all, American nationalism is the word heard and read many things after the September 11 attacks in 2001.It provided support for the change in U.S. policy towards the rest of the world. It was not as strong as this eased over the past two centuries, since he now has the Americansstandardized.

Anatol Lieven book poses questions that had been prepared with great care. His abilities as a historian and his previous activities were the main topics discussed with examples of the case, it leads. It uses the shuttle service between the major issues of today and the past, a journey through American history to compare and get some results. Is there a link between the ancient and modern history of the United States.

CoverPaper and colors are for the Republicans to victory against the Democrats in the presidential election of 2004. Lieven wrote: "It 'was due to a mixture of nationalism and an appeal to conservative religious feeling that the Bush administration won the election." (IV) The Republicans are the ones who attacked the Democrats and said he is too weak to defend the country against its enemies, while the Republicans can do it through the unification of the nation. With this sentence Lieven FocusThe focus is clearly in this book. He argues, as he wrote: "The Republican Party of the United States, the American Nationalist Party. (IV) Bush and Reagan have both the proper use of nationalism, many advantages, the second term of his presidency, to win. The Nationalism is American support for his power and influence in the world.

The book examines the U.S. I think something unique and beneficial to experiment with different governments and their originThis belief is not far away and separated from religion in times of war as the war in Iraq. American nationalism has always been mixed with religious colors. Put the roots in the Protestant faith, which the Americans as a whole and to demonstrate their origins in Europe and are in fact different. The combination of nationalism and religion for many Americans, was the whole story of some terrible experiences, such as wars within and outside the country and has developedfurther. It also creates a climate that there are lessons to be learned for the Americans to revise their history. He believes that American democracy, focusing on its importance, but at the same time it is threatened by certain policies of the United States and the country is not immune from threats like the past has argued that the 'environment. Lieven refers to the September 11 attacks on the American continent, which was after what has happened so far has never happened at PearlPort.

The global power of the United States, is distinguished from the old Europe it is permissible for specific actions to be taken as pre-emptive wars based on its political culture and American nationalism and its economic and military power, all to serve the American system. This developed after the Second World War and continued after the collapse of communism, then export American values around the world has grown rapidly. Lieven describes the complexity of AmericaNationalism in his book, and a reason for division of the United States and the Muslim world. Although many criticized the United States because of its imperialist character, "does not think that the vast majority of ordinary Americans see themselves as imperialist, or have an empire." (P. 2) says Lieven. The belief in its sole and be elected, "a city on the hill" (John Winthrop), American chauvinism and messianism in isolation from the rest of the world and led to sentencing to take into account otherAnd foreign nations. Yet for many Americans, nationalism is not the only reason the policy of the United States against other countries' support, but a response to any perceived threat to them.

Lieven in various chapters of the book of politics, two aspects of American nationalism, "American Creed" and "antithesis".

American faith or 'American Thesis' is an important element in the founding of the country and the center of unity in which religion is very important. Some believethe principles of the American creed has always been universal, which receives mail from people all over the world. Lieven Toqueville recite the words that Americans "need to agree on general principles governing human society" (p.48) and in the early years of the twenty-first century, first, the strength of this conviction was a sponsor for the system American political and expand the import of such principles abroad. Lieven mentioned some other important elements in the American creed, faithFreedom, constitutionalism, rule of law, democracy, individualism, and cultural and political equality. "(P.49)

American Creed is, with a scale and diversity, because it was open to immigrants, and periodically change the nature of capitalism, but also includes a review process. Lieven writes: "Reagan used to say (quoting the polemicists of the American Revolution Thomas Paine)" We have in our power to begin the world again from scratch. "(P. 63) In view of american LievenMessianism is dynamic. But what is mentioned in the service of American power and influence in the world. It was then that the opposition is increasing, not because many believe in the role of the United States as a savior of the world. This underlines still practiced in order to win the presidential campaign, the American mission to save the world is different.

The contrast is the other side of nationalism, tribes, mostly from ethnic and religious roots. (P.5), says Lieven. This together with changes in the willAmerica because of its large size and complexity. It provides examples of other countries, nationalism, the word chosen to be used by other nations, but the word is a distinction that is still ongoing in American nationalism.

If nationalism is a kind of radical, no doubt pleased with the defeat, as the ancient empires of practices in other countries, but the fruits were destroyed, and compelling changes in their economies and political entities without resistanceto imitate the West. The defeat is effective on each individual, as well as hatred caused by imperialistic actions. Lieven counts four elements for the sense of defeat,” the original,” core” White Anglo-Saxon and Scots Irish population of the Britain colonies in North America; the specific historical culture and experience of the White South; the cultural world of fundamentalist Protestantism; and the particular memories, fears and hatreds of some American ethnic groups and lobbies.” (p.91)He said that the "American dream" with "powerful conservative forces of religion." (P. 123) Lieven not ignoring the new aspects of nationalism, such as "Irish American nationalism" (p.133) and the impact on American nationalism. American creed Flowering in all his years he had after the Second World War and the collapse of communism and "the role of America as the" custodian of freedom "was played constantly official propaganda, political rhetoric, media andindeed much of American society.” (p.153)

The way he argues and discusses the issues in the last chapter of the book, which are both sensitive and crucial such as the US/Middle East and especially Muslim world relations makes us think again. He brings some justifications and sympathies and some blames over the American actions around the world. Lieven’s journalistic way of writing which is based on his studies and experiences created a balance of subjects and explanations within the book, and, finally, it is not easy to say if you write really for or against. This is why some people do not consider it a kind of anti-American and others. The book contains both admiration and criticism in the United States.

There are more failures of the Bush administration, which has the hatred of the war policies of America around the world and the problems later. The writer condemns the war in Iraq.

The book raises questions about the ideology of exceptionalism and identity of American art,In September 11, 2001. There are more failures of the Bush administration, which has the hatred of the war policy of the United States around the world, and condemned the war in Iraq.

Throughout the book, it was a clever way of writing that between admiration and criticism of the United States
